Are you on the threshold of your marriage? This is the exact time when there are many doubts and questions in a person’s mind. The question is not just about whether the person you have chosen is the right one or not or whether this is the right time for this step. The queries are also about other basic customs and etiquettes. Of these, one of the major doubts pertains to that about the wedding rings.  You would definitely agree that the part where you are supposed to exchange the wedding rings is one of the most important and beautiful moments of your life.  This makes the wedding band not just a piece of jewelry but also a representation of a special bond you share with your husband. Therefore, the question, how should the ring be worn isn’t a trifling one. Let us explore the answer to that.

Wedding rings are a part of almost all cultures from all parts of the world. The cultures and the rules related to the wedding ring might vary but one factor that is constant is the finger where the ring is worn. The idea is to wear it on the ring finger. Although there are a number of reason provided f or this, the main reason is that a ring looks best on this particular finger. In case you are not sure as to which one is your ring finger, then start counting from the thumb. The fourth finger is the one.

Now the next question that must be coming up in your mind is which hand are you supposed to wear the wedding ring? Generally the trend is the left hand. Most cultures follow this trend. The belief behind this is that there is a vein which runs from the left ring finger and goes up straight to the heart. Since the heart has always been considered as an important part when it comes to love and relationships, this finger was believed to be the one perfect for the choice. Although there are no medical evidences to point towards any vein as such, the trend of wearing wedding rings on the left hand is pretty well established.

There is however some cultures which prefer the right hand ring finger for the purpose.  Particularly amongst the Latin countries, left is considered to be the bad-luck side of a person. That is why some places, particularly the Latin countries use the right hand for wearing the wedding ring. Before you marry, clarify the tradition followed by your family. However it is a good idea to give respect to your partner’s tradition. There is no harm in making your better half feel important and loved.

For years, people have considered wedding rings as a symbol of love and commitment. So, if you take special care in finding out the right convention of wearing them, you would be paying respect to this symbol, which might bring you a lot of love-luck. So go on and earn that luck for yourself.
